飯豊連峰の雄大な山容には万年雪も残り、朝日山地と並んで「東北アルプス」とも称される。名前の由来は諸説あるが、雪化粧をしたその姿が"飯を豊かに盛った様子に見える"ことから「飯豊（いいで）」と呼ばれるようになったという説もある。
　現に、喜多方市の景色と言えば飯豊山をバックにした田園風景であり、赴きある蔵のまちの姿である。
